LAMBOURN trainer Warren Greatrex has a decent chance of taking the National Hunt Novices Hurdle in the opening race of the meeting at Sandown this afternoon.

His horse Knight Pass will come under threat from the Paul Nicholls-trained Black Thunder and the Jonjo O’Neill runner Keep Kicking.

The first of four races screened by Channel 4 is the grade one Henry VIII Novices Chase where the Nicholls trained Al Ferof is likely to start at short odds.

Local trainer Alan King has Lidar entered for the race and the six-year-old finally lived up to expectations with a 33-length win on his last appearance, should he go to post he could give the Nicholls runner the most to do.

The Somerset trainer can’t be ignored in all the feature races on a Saturday and his runner in the Listed Handicap Hurdle, Edgardo Sol, would seem to be the one they all have to beat.
