THE jury is still out as to whether or not beer makes art look better, but pub goers and art lovers alike are now enjoying both at a new gallery in Prahran.
The Publican Gallery has opened inside The Prince Maximilian Hotel in Commercial Rd, attracting artists from a range of genres keen to showcase their talent.
The Pub Art Hub concept was the brainchild of abstract artist Helen Pollard who has curated the gallery’s first show, 11/11/11, opening on Friday at 6pm.
Ms Pollard said the idea was born of her need to “break away from the norm” of displaying artwork in a conventional gallery.
In addition to Pollard, four other artists have collaborated for the first exhibition, including cartoonist Brett Willis, painter Ameilia Lackmann, photographer Shannon Boh and figurative painter Kylie Baudino.
