So where did Johnny Depp sit then? I duly enquired after finding out I was hot on the heels of the Hollywood star.
He, of course, was given use of the private courtyard as he popped in to dine at Corinthia London – the capital’s newest luxury hotel.
And now here was I, double kissing people’s cheeks and sharing air with A-listers – pity I wasn't there the other week when Daniel Craig and co were in town to talk about the new James Bond movie.
The Whitehall Place venue opened earlier this year and has already attracted a host of celebs, including Pirates Of The Caribbean star Depp and Colin Firth who held the King’s Speech pre-Bafta party at the hotel.
And although I say it’s new, Corinthia London is actually more vintage modern. It first opened in 1885 as the Hotel Metropole before it was taken over by the government in 1936 and used as Ministry of Defence offices.
