Napoli's glory days are inextricably linked with Diego Maradona, the man who is still deified by Neapolitans for inspiring the Partenopei to their first ever Scudetto. Today, as he prepared to grace the great man's old stomping ground – albeit for the opposite side – his son-in-law and Manchester City forward Sergio Agüero, said that he was trying to put all thoughts of El Pibe de Oro to one side. "I know Diego Maradona played here but I don't want to think about it," he said. "I just want to try to enjoy tomorrow.
"Diego made footballing history here and I've no idea if Napoli's supporters will applaud me but I do know that they love players who come from Argentina here. Diego is a god for this city, but he is a god in Argentina too. I haven't spoken to Ezequiel Lavezzi about us both playing in this match as it would have been disrespectful to our clubs. And anyway, when we play together for Argentina, we talk about everything but football."
