Among the biggest complaints about guest rooms these days, Budge tells me, are too few power outlets, lack of make-up counter space for women and poor guestroom lighting - all of which will be addressed in the renovation.
Renovated less than three years ago
The club-like hotel's public spaces and guest rooms were revamped in 2009 by designer Alexandra Champalimaud, and I personally think they still look fresh and inviting. But to Budge, the public spaces - and even more so the quaint rooms - now need more than new fabrics and carpet.
The lobby restaurant areas also get so packed with both guests and locals, particularly for cabaret events, that the lobby furniture needs to be replaced.
"There isn't a piece in here that wasn't reupholstered at least once," Budge says.
