HUNTSVILLE, Alabama -- A group of engineering students at Lee High School have what their teacher calls "a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity" - an invitation to see the launch of the Mars Science Laboratory on Nov. 25.
All they need is the money to get to Cape Canaveral.
Donors have come through to pay the cost of a chartered bus for the 15 students and seven adults, but the group still needs money for the hotel rooms for the bus driver and two students who can't afford to go unless they get some financial help, said Doreen Forsythe, who teaches engineering classes at Lee High.
Once at the cape, students will be considered "VVIPs," meaning they will go to a pre-launch dinner where they will meet people who are working on the mission to Mars. They will also get to see the launch of the payload aboard an Atlas V rocket.
