Surprising the golf world earlier this year with the announcement that world renowned golfer Lee Westwood was to be his Attached Tour Professional, entrepreneur Graham Wylie has taken his next step into making his privately owned golf club and hotel at Close House in Northumberland, the best in the North of England and beyond.  

Wylie's latest strategic move in his ten year plan for this exciting venue, is to take on Gleneagles Head Golf Pro and Head of Golf Operations Russell Smith as his new Director of Golf at Close House.

The hotel is situated in the middle of the long road of (yes) Georgian-style houses, and in fact consists of three former residential houses that have had the walls knocked through to make one, slightly confusing, whole. The room guide informs us that the current owners' great-great-great grandfather (or somebody equally antique), by all accounts a very famous architect, designed the building and its sister hotel, the Bower House. First impressions were overwhelming - it looked cheap, and the floor on the way to our room was covered in cellophane on account of the building work that was (audibly)...
