Central Victoria’s top restaurants have been revealed in the 2012 Australian Good Food and Travel Guide Chef Hat Awards.
Chef hats are awarded on food alone with inspectors giving a score out of 20.
Inspectors base their ratings on six attributes: ingredients, value, taste, presentation, technique and consistency.
The Lake House in Daylesford gained the highest central Victorian chef hat rating of 16 out of 20.
Daylesford’s reputation for fine dining was confirmed with Mercato @ Daylesford and Sault both rating 13.
Bendigo’s Whirrakee Restaurant rated 13 and Wine Bank on View 12.
Castlemaine restaurant The Empyre rated 12, as did Kyneton restaurants Mr Carsisi and Royal George Hotel.
Oscar W’s Wharfside at Echuca also rated 12.
