A TYNESIDE mum who killed her two children in a Spanish hotel room may plead insanity to escape jail.
Lianne Smith, has admitted using a plastic bag to smother her son, Daniel, 11 months, and five-year-old daughter Rebecca in May last year.
But court papers have revealed that the 44-year-old, from Wallsend, plans to claim she was not criminally responsible for the youngsters’ deaths, due to mental illness.
Rebecca and Daniel were found dead in a room at the Hotel Miramar in Lloret de Mar, on the Costa Brava.
Smith, the children and her partner Martin Smith had fled to Spain as he became Britain’s Most Wanted after skipping bail for sex offences.
The paedophile was eventually arrested by the Spanish police and extradited back to Britain.
