Hilton Worldwide today announced an agreement with Dijkhuis Vastgoed Management B.V, the owner of Hilton Amsterdam, for a new luxury Waldorf Astoria Hotels & Resorts property.  Located in the heart of central Amsterdam, within the recently declared UNESCO World Heritage site, the Waldorf Astoria Amsterdam will be created by combining six historic canal-side buildings.

Waldorf Astoria Amsterdam will be nestled amongst 17th and 18th century row houses, alongside one of Amsterdam’s most well-know canals, Herengracht.  Its premiere central location is ideal for leisure guests visiting the capital city’s historic sights, museums, shops, and cafes. Its proximity to Amsterdam’s business district will make it ideal for corporate travelers seeking a premium luxury

Some of the unique ideas that Roberto Payer brought to the Hilton Amsterdam included bringing in boats when Amsterdam had none. The goal was to be the best downtown. He created green spaces with open windows even when he had no budget. He created an Italian restaurant, called Roberto’s. It was the only Italian restaurant in 1992, again with no budget.
